A peek into my journals 2

Hi Friends! I'm posting today with another look into my journals, here are 3 more pages! All of these were done in one of my 9x12 mixed media workbooks, about a year ago. I'll do my best to advise the products and techniques used for each page. I started this pages with torn up and randomly placed book pages, then covered with white Liquitex gesso. I then cut out a Shnibblybits stencil in Splinters and applied modeling paste in a vertical direction, let dry and then applied another layer of modeling paste in a horizontal direction and let it dry. I used several different Lindy's Magicals and sprays for the colours. I used water to blend and spread the colour over the page drying with a heat tool to set the colours. I unintentionally blistered the modeling paste during this step and was actually quite happy with the effect. While that dried and cooled down I cut out Shnibblybits Bordered Hearts Cutout  into a piece of patterned paper, I believe it was...

My colour inspiration

Hi Friends! Today I'm posting a journal page I just finished. My kids had provided the colour inspiration on this layout. They had collected a few items from our yard that ended up in the bin I use to transport my journal and supplies from inside to outside. I often pack this bin each time we go outside so I can at least get one layer down in between my daily tasks. Here's what ended up in my bin: I started this page the night before with torn up pieces of Tim Holtz Tissue wrap in Melange, I simply applied them with Mod Podge, before sealing I layed down several different washi and tissue tapes. I wanted to add some variation in colour so I laid the strips in both horizontal and vertical directions. Once everything was down I sealed the entire page with Mod Podge. I then cut out a Shnibblybits cut file in Vines with birds  in a dark brown 12 x 12 card stock sheet. I glued the one vine down with Aleene's glue and let dry in the sun. I discovered one dis...

A peek into my journals 1

Hi friends, I have always loved the idea of writing in a journal, ever since I was a kid. That desire never did last very long as I would always loose interest due to having no guidance so to speak. When I started my exploration into the mixed media world, I had been intrigued by all of the amazing journals I started to see. I also discovered that the journaling part was really subject to your interpretation, I was thankful for that, as the idea I always had in my mind was basically writing a novels worth of important daily happenings. In the middle of April I had attended a course and was given a simple journal with the suggestion to write something/ anything in it everyday. I was honestly not looking forward to this for the reasons above but I figured I'd just make art pages with a few words here and there and that would be sufficient. It started out as I expected and I was not interested in writing down what I did during the day, which can be quite monotonous and stressful, ...

A summer layout

Good afternoon friends! I wanted to share another one of my art journal pages, this one I had done at the end of August. With Fall fast approaching in my part of the world, I really wanted to make a page that encompassed everything I love about summer! Again, I'm using my large Dylusions art journal, I always tape the centre seam with masking tape as I tend to go heavy on wet mediums and want to prevent anything from affecting other pages. I start by adding a layer of matte Mod Podge and apply ripped up sections of Tim Holtz tissue wrap in Melange and old book pages until everything is covered, then sealing the top with the Mod Podge. Once that was dry I added a layer of white Liquitex gesso and let it set overnight. I started out by misting a thin layer of water to the entire page and I watered down some Deep Violet Liquitex ink!  in a plastic pallet, with a large brush I add the colour to the two opposite edges of the pages and spray tons of water to have it bleed all ov...

I have a blog...

Hi friends,  Thanks for stopping by! I’m posting today to introduce myself and showcase an journal spread that I finished up today. I'm going to be posting a few of my past mixed media projects with directions and a list of the products used over the next few weeks, as well as any of my current works. I hope you like what I have to show, drop me a line I'd love to hear from you! This double page spread was made in my large Dylusions journal. I started out with a very simple background, first applying masking tape to the centre and then adding a layer of Liquitex gesso. Once dry, I add my main colour which is Liquitex ink! in phthalocyanine blue and lots of water which I spray to dilute the ink and help spread over the pages. I did that a few times until I achieved the colour I wanted, I had blotted the colour up in some areas to create light spots and used undiluted ink in others to create darker areas. I let that dry and took a few Lindy's spra...
