Birds project - Part 1

Hi Friends, Thanks for stopping by today, I'm here posting on my latest project! My family and I had gone on holidays at the end of June, during the countless hours of driving I managed to get 25 birds fussy cut. I also added some Tim Holtz rubons to the birds. Once we returned home, I went through my journals and discovered I had at least 25 backgrounds that just needed a focal image, and that's where the idea came from. 1/25  2/25 3/25 I hope you enjoy what I've created! A few more Spring pages

Hi Friends! I'm here to share the last of the art journal pages I had created before Spring was over. Here is a work in progress page using Tim Holts tissue wrap, gesso, and Lindy's sprays. I used a Shnibblybits stencil for the circles. And here is the completed page. I used a pencil to trace the circles which was nice for a little shading and I simply used gesso on the rest of the page. I used a bold white Faber Castell pitt pen to add highlights. This is my last page of Spring. This page was created with old book page scraps, masking tape, and various washi tape. Then a light coat of white gesso. I had seen another artist use a brayer to add Lindy's so I had to do the same.  This is the final product. All I did was add some black ink circles, a few sentences and a butterfly. I really hope you like what I've created, you can follow me on Instagram @lisabakkermixedmedia to see my current pages. I will get them here but may take a bit lo

Earlier days

Hi Friends, Thank you for stopping by to see my latest art journal page! I'm so happy to of had some creative time this past week, keeping this page simple, I was able to get one done and published quickly. I broke into my stash of my most favourite paper, the Farmhouse Paper Company's BTW collection, choosing the lined note pad paper for my background. I applied two coats of Liquitex clear gesso, drying with a heat tool in-between layers. Next, I applied modeling paste randomly through my Moroccan circles stencil, from Shnibblybits, I let it dry overnight. Next came the colour, I haven't used Twinkling H2O's in quite some time and found that the exact colours I was wanting were in the sets that I have. I sprayed the page with water and used the already moistened H2O's, just by adding some to the page and getting it to run with extra water. Once I was happy with the colour I let it dry overnight. This page sat for a few day's until I figured o

A wonderful creature

Hi Friends, Thanks for stopping by to see my latest art journal page! The past few weeks have been a doozie for me and am thankful to have completed a page to share. My husband suggested moving my creative space, which resulted in doubling my work space but it really put me in a funk that was hard to shake, the weather being so poor really didn't help either. I posted on Instagram some amazing vintage books that I acquired, which also overwhelmed my situation, it's funny how less is actually more, and more is too much! Luckily, I can see the light and am pushing through. As most of my pages do, this one stared with old book pages and some Tim Holtz tissue wrap. My favourite thing about cutting my own stencils are the "negative" pieces! I used the "negative" pieces from a  Shnibblybits   Moroccan Tile  stencil, just using all purpose glue to adhere them to the page. Once the glue was dry I gessoed the whole thing. Next, I added a thick layer

Beauty

Hi Friends! I'm here to share another art journal page with you all! I noticed that I've been sticking mostly to a blue and green pallet lately and figured it was time to switch it up! This double page spread was created on two A4 sized Finnabair printed papers. Because they already encompassed the colour pallet I was aiming for, I really did very little to the background. I just randomly stamped a script stamp all over the papers with black archival ink and applied white gesso. I was really feeling like adding a lot of texture to this layout, so I used two of my Shnibblybits stencils, Harlequin and Mixed Numbers  with modelling paste, just alternating the patterns randomly over both pages. I let the page dry overnight. Now the colour, I used the following Lindy's sprays, Phantom Fuchsia, Hottie Pattotie Hot Pink, & Sunset Pink. Once that was dry I did a little stamping around the colour with black archival ink and a music notes and a bubbles stamp. I used v

Forever

Hi Friends! I'm here to post the process of my latest art journal page. I really had fun with this page and am happy that I was able to finish it relativity quickly. Starting out on mixed media paper, I applied strips of old book pages and various washi tapes with mod podge. Once I was happy with the composition, I covered the entire page with white gesso. With black archival ink and a few Tim Holtz stamps, I randomly stamped around the paper and tape cluster. I then add the colour, using Lindy's sprays in Sea Mint Green and Mystic Malachite, I mostly just stay to the cluster, spraying and using the dip tubes to apply the colour. I used my heat tool to dry and add a few colour splaters here and there. I then glue down a few ripped pages borders, a few rulers from a Tim Holtz paper pack, some scrap ribbon, drywall tapes, and an embossed butterfly as the bases of the photos. I had previously cut out the two small shipping tags from a  Shnibblybits  SVG file and added som

Happy Memories

Hi Friends! I'm posting another quick art journal page today. I started this page with scraps of Tim Holtz tissue wrap and masking tape which I adhered with Mod Podge. I arranged and adhered scraps of canvas gesso side down and then gessoed the entire page. Using a blending tool and Distress Oxides in Broken China and Antique Linen I added colour to the background. I then used Lindy's sprays and Inktense pencils to colour and outline the canvas pieces with several blue and brown shades. I randomly added script stamping with Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide, pine needle stamping with Walnut Stain Distress Oxide, and stencilled Harlequin pattern with Shnibblybits stencil with Broken China Distress Oxide. After inking the edges of a few Shnibblybits vines with black ink, I adhered them down with all purpose glue. I then added some floral and butterfly die cuts from Tim Holtz to make a few clusters. Finally I added the bird, he's an Arboreal chickadee who frequent
