Willow Flycatcher

Hi Friends! It's been just over a month since my last post, did that ever go quickly! I have been struggling to find time and inspiration to get any projects started lately. I was happy to of had a little time to start a page this week and keep the progress going until it was finished! I decided to keep this page really simple and try out a few new products. I have never tried Prima's Color Bloom sprays so while I was in the city last week I purchased a few. I also just purchased a batch of Tim Holtz Distress Oxide and am super excited to start using them, I've seen a bunch of tutorials on Youtube and the results look amazing! I started out with white gesso on the page and randomly stamped a script stamp with black archival ink over the page, then I sprayed Glistening Waves Color Bloom spray mostly to the centre of the page and let it dry overnight. After choosing a few Tim Holtz washi tapes I applied them with glue, I added some "coffee stains" with Lindy

Create Happiness

Hello Friends! I'm here today to share an art journal page that I created using leftovers from another project that I'm working on. Again, I'm using washi tape, tissue wrap, paper scraps, joint tape, and masking tape for my base to create a focal point and some base texture. I then used a combo of Lindy's sprays in blues and browns, focusing mainly on the area with the base texture. I used a stencil with coffee stains and a chestnut ink, some ghost stamping with black archival ink and a harlequin pattern, as well as random script stamping too. I also used both inks on the border of my page. While adding crackle paste through a damask stencil to my other project, I figured I could to the same to this page, as I had no set direction, and let's face it, why not? I was loving how the raw wood and natural lace was looking on the other project so I added a few leaves and some lace scraps to this page. I fussy cut a frame for my words and portrait from a BoBu

Quick Keys

Hi Friends! I'm here today to share a quick page in one of my cheap dollar store note books. I started out by gluing two pages together with a UGU glue stick. While that dried I cut out Old style key cutouts  by Shnibblybits  into white card stock. I then took Aleene's glue and adhered them to the page, once that was done I covered everything in white Liquitex gesso. I then added Lindy's South Shore Sand to the entire background, I then focused Screamin' Banshee Black to the perimeter of the keys using the dip tube to isolate the colour. I used a bit of water from my spray bottle to help it travel along. All the keys were outlined with a pencil to pop them out of the background. I then outlined the words and my page with black archival ink. Thank you for stopping by and I hope you like what I've created! Lisa :)

Tying up loose ends

Hi Friends! I'm here today with another blog post. Any art journaler, scrapbooker, crafter, and artist can tell you that they have stacks of projects on the go, I am no exception! I probably have as many WIP (work in progress) projects as I have completed ones, my enthusiasm is always greater then the amount of free time I have. My goal this month will be to finish a WIP page for every new one I start and hopefully finish, haha! Another goal I have is to use use up a bunch of my ephemera horde. I think that when I start a project and start looking into some options I often get overwhelmed and then quickly retreat because it becomes too stressful. I'm hoping that if I remove some of my obstacles I can create more projects in less time, here's hoping!! I started this double page spread at the end of August simply by stamping a script stamp with black archival ink onto white tissue paper. I tore up the sheet and adhered it randomly with Mod Podge, sealing the top. I then

Early morning layout

Hello Friends, Another early morning today resulted in a quick layout. Why you ask would I get up between 4-6am? Because I'm crazy! Haha, just kidding, because I have two small kids! Should I be getting more sleep? Yes, probably, but then I'd never get to create!  Most of my projects start out in the early morning hours, while the coffee is fresh and hot and most importantly everyone else is sleeping! This time for me is very important as having a creative outlet has been and is very therapeutic. I have carved out my own little space in my house that is all mine and has everything in it that I love. Today is Thanksgiving here in Canada and I often have time to reflect on things during the early morning hours, today is no different. I'm using my 5.5" x 8.5" Strathmore mixed media workbook. I started by applying gesso by Golden. While cleaning my desk I came across a napkin that I had been using to sop up excess ink with and wanted to use that for thi

Christmas in October?

Hi Friends! Christmas came early for me yesterday, I purchased myself a 24 piece set of Derwent Inktense pencils! I've been eyeing them for about a year now and when a shopping trip was due and the 55% off coupon from Michales arrived in my email, it was like the stars aligned, and it was time! So this morning at 6am, I snuck down to my art space and tried them out. I always have a stack of journal pages in various states of completion sitting on my desk, so I chose one that already had Shnibblybits   Hexagon Bordered Cutout  that was cut out at a quarter of the original size. This has to be one of my favourite cut files, it really is so diverse and is such a great configuration! It had been glued down to some dollar store journal pages with Aleene's glue. It also had random script stamping in black archival ink and everything was covered in white Liquitex gesso. The page was sprayed previously with Lindy's Treasure Island Aqua and that's how it sat until today. I

Different is Beautiful!

Hi Friends! I'm posting today with another completed journal page. I've been quite productive lately as the weather has changed and we've been spending more time inside. This journal page started out by collaging a few papers from my stash, old book pages that were previously stamped with script, and tissue paper in which was stamped with Illustrated botanicals stamps by Tim holtz. I also stamped the Tim Holtz butterflies from the Flutter set directly to the page, I should of stamped them to the tissue first then attached to the page. The thing about finely detailed stamps is they really need a flat even surface and they didn't turn out as crisp as I would of liked. Once I was happy with the configuration I sealed the entire page with Mod Poge. I chose a Shnibblybits stencil in Harlequin pattern  to add with Dina Wakley's black gesso randomly to the page using a makeup sponge. I also used a ledger stamp from Tim Holtz Documented stamp set with black archi

A peek into my journals 2

Hi Friends! I'm posting today with another look into my journals, here are 3 more pages! All of these were done in one of my 9x12 mixed media workbooks, about a year ago. I'll do my best to advise the products and techniques used for each page. I started this pages with torn up and randomly placed book pages, then covered with white Liquitex gesso. I then cut out a Shnibblybits stencil in Splinters and applied modeling paste in a vertical direction, let dry and then applied another layer of modeling paste in a horizontal direction and let it dry. I used several different Lindy's Magicals and sprays for the colours. I used water to blend and spread the colour over the page drying with a heat tool to set the colours. I unintentionally blistered the modeling paste during this step and was actually quite happy with the effect. While that dried and cooled down I cut out Shnibblybits Bordered Hearts Cutout  into a piece of patterned paper, I believe it was

My colour inspiration

Hi Friends! Today I'm posting a journal page I just finished. My kids had provided the colour inspiration on this layout. They had collected a few items from our yard that ended up in the bin I use to transport my journal and supplies from inside to outside. I often pack this bin each time we go outside so I can at least get one layer down in between my daily tasks. Here's what ended up in my bin: I started this page the night before with torn up pieces of Tim Holtz Tissue wrap in Melange, I simply applied them with Mod Podge, before sealing I layed down several different washi and tissue tapes. I wanted to add some variation in colour so I laid the strips in both horizontal and vertical directions. Once everything was down I sealed the entire page with Mod Podge. I then cut out a Shnibblybits cut file in Vines with birds  in a dark brown 12 x 12 card stock sheet. I glued the one vine down with Aleene's glue and let dry in the sun. I discovered one dis

A peek into my journals 1

Hi friends, I have always loved the idea of writing in a journal, ever since I was a kid. That desire never did last very long as I would always loose interest due to having no guidance so to speak. When I started my exploration into the mixed media world, I had been intrigued by all of the amazing journals I started to see. I also discovered that the journaling part was really subject to your interpretation, I was thankful for that, as the idea I always had in my mind was basically writing a novels worth of important daily happenings. In the middle of April I had attended a course and was given a simple journal with the suggestion to write something/ anything in it everyday. I was honestly not looking forward to this for the reasons above but I figured I'd just make art pages with a few words here and there and that would be sufficient. It started out as I expected and I was not interested in writing down what I did during the day, which can be quite monotonous and stressful,

A summer layout

Good afternoon friends! I wanted to share another one of my art journal pages, this one I had done at the end of August. With Fall fast approaching in my part of the world, I really wanted to make a page that encompassed everything I love about summer! Again, I'm using my large Dylusions art journal, I always tape the centre seam with masking tape as I tend to go heavy on wet mediums and want to prevent anything from affecting other pages. I start by adding a layer of matte Mod Podge and apply ripped up sections of Tim Holtz tissue wrap in Melange and old book pages until everything is covered, then sealing the top with the Mod Podge. Once that was dry I added a layer of white Liquitex gesso and let it set overnight. I started out by misting a thin layer of water to the entire page and I watered down some Deep Violet Liquitex ink!  in a plastic pallet, with a large brush I add the colour to the two opposite edges of the pages and spray tons of water to have it bleed all ov

I have a blog...

Hi friends,  Thanks for stopping by! I’m posting today to introduce myself and showcase an journal spread that I finished up today. I'm going to be posting a few of my past mixed media projects with directions and a list of the products used over the next few weeks, as well as any of my current works. I hope you like what I have to show, drop me a line I'd love to hear from you! This double page spread was made in my large Dylusions journal. I started out with a very simple background, first applying masking tape to the centre and then adding a layer of Liquitex gesso. Once dry, I add my main colour which is Liquitex ink! in phthalocyanine blue and lots of water which I spray to dilute the ink and help spread over the pages. I did that a few times until I achieved the colour I wanted, I had blotted the colour up in some areas to create light spots and used undiluted ink in others to create darker areas. I let that dry and took a few Lindy's sprays to fill i
