Hi Friends!
I'm here today with another blog post. Any art journaler, scrapbooker, crafter, and artist can tell you that they have stacks of projects on the go, I am no exception! I probably have as many WIP (work in progress) projects as I have completed ones, my enthusiasm is always greater then the amount of free time I have. My goal this month will be to finish a WIP page for every new one I start and hopefully finish, haha!
Another goal I have is to use use up a bunch of my ephemera horde. I think that when I start a project and start looking into some options I often get overwhelmed and then quickly retreat because it becomes too stressful. I'm hoping that if I remove some of my obstacles I can create more projects in less time, here's hoping!!
I started this double page spread at the end of August simply by stamping a script stamp with black archival ink onto white tissue paper. I tore up the sheet and adhered it randomly with Mod Podge, sealing the top. I then took Shnibblybits Stamp cutouts and stencils and applied the pieces with Aleene's glue in the configuration I wanted. I then gessoed over everything with Liquitex gesso in 50% white & 50% clear.
Now in October, I started to select the ephemera and papers that I wanted to use. I had no idea where I wanted to go with this page, just that I need to use up my horde. I had just recently purchased the Architextures by 7 Gypsies and the little "Tin Tiles" fit inside the stamps perfectly, I was on my way! I used some of the "Barn door" from the same pack and cut it to fit. I found some Tim Holtz ephemera and trimmed those down to size, I also used some patterned paper from Kaiser Craft from the Time Machine and Story Book collections. I also added some drywall tape for added texture. I then dry brushed white gesso over all of the squares to seal, knock it into the background, and add some tooth for additional steps.
Starting with the background colour, I used Lindy's Macigals and sprays in the following colours, Merry-go Round Green, Cactus Gold, T-bird Turquoise, My Mojito Green, Golden Doubloons, & Treasure Island Aqua. As always, I premixed the Magicals with water in a pallet and add with a brush.
I love stencilling with inks! I don't know what brought me to select the Rusty Hinge colour because I never, ever use orange, but I did and initially regretted it! I was able to come to terms with it by adding Frayed Burlap over top. I used Shnibblybits Moroccan Tile stencil and a blending tool to achieve that step.
So at this point I was committed to a Fall themed layout, I have to be honest, I immediately wanted to abandon it altogether. But I'm now glad I worked through my discomfort. The leaves were made using velum paper that I simply stamped leaves on with black archival ink and took alcohol ink with a blending tool and plenty of Fall colours to the back sides. I fussy cut them out and were later applied with a glue pen.
Another thing I'm not a fan of is my drawing skills, I figured if I attempt to draw a tree and it flops, well I would just cover it up and move on. Having just purchased the Inktense pencils I figured having such an amazing product would help! Surprise, surprise, I don't hate it! It's better than any tree I've drawn before so that's good!
Once adding some Tim Holtz clippings and some die cut stamps with birds from the horde and that was it.
I hope you like what I've created!
Lisa :)
